Our Process

How does the process for creating a website work?

Our process for creating a website follows three simple stages. The first stage is the Planning stage. We determine the type of website you’re looking for and its main purpose. We also plan and collect the content for the site and address any technical requirements.

The second stage is the Design stage. Here we work on the overall look and feel of your website and create layouts for the main pages of your website.

The third and final stage is the build stage. Here we build and install the files of your website so it can be viewed in a browser. We use the content from the planning stage and the final design from the Design stage. You are able to view the website as we build it offering any feedback.

One the website is done it put online and made live for all your customers.

Our website process is designed to be simple, organized and efficient with the least amount of confusion for our clients.

This is a simple overview of our website process. For more details please visit the ‘Our Process’ page.

How long does a website take to create and build?

The amount of time it takes to create a website depends on the size of the website. The size of a website is determined by the number of pages in the website, the amount of content that is on each page and the required features and functionality.

A medium size website of 10 to 12 pages will generally take 1 to 2 weeks for planning and design and 2 to 4 weeks for development. A more accurate timeline will be included with your project quote. Waiting for content resources from the client or additions to the scope of the website will add time to your website project.

This is general guideline as every website project comes with its own set of unique challenges and there are always exceptions to consider. When estimating the timeline for your website project we will make every effort to work within any deadlines you may have.

Can I see my website while it is in progress?

Once we have reached a certain point during the build stage of your website it will available for you to see and provide us with any feedback. Any minor changes, additions or alterations within the scope of the project can be made.

Changes or additions beyond the project scope may add to the costs and development time. Once the website is complete a full review and approval by the client will be required before the website goes live.

What is a Design template?

A design template is a set of professionally designed web pages that that can be used as the design of your web site. They also sometimes referred to as layout packs.

Each design template is designed based on a specific type of business or interest and can be added to any website.

Design templates don’t have to be used for the specific type of business they were designed for and can be modified to work with almost any type of business.

The entire set of templates can be used, a single page can be used or only one section from any page can be used depending on your purposes.

The pages of a design template usually consist of a Home page, a Landing page, an About page, and a Contact Page. There may also be pages for products, services, and a blog. Any other pages your may need can be easily created.

Design templates are free with any website we create. Also, all the graphics and images are freely usable with no licensing restrictions.

How do design templates work?

After a design template is selected the pages are loaded into your website. We simply add your content to each page and your website is ready to go.

The tricky part is to get the layout to work with your content. Adding longer headings and larger paragraphs than what are seen in the design template can drastically affect the layout. To deal with this we are able to tweak or change any part of a layout pack so it works better with your content.

Look for a design template that will work best for the type of website you need. At the very least all you need to do is add your logo, contact information and content to each page. If you need something more, a layout pack can work as a good starting point for the development of your website.

Any of the page layouts from a design template are fully configurable. Pages can be renamed and reordered. Sections can be added, moved around or removed. Colours, fonts, animations, design elements and backgrounds can also be changed as needed.

Any modifications made to a design template will take more time and can result in additional costs depending on the number of changes made.

Pricing

How much does a website cost?

There are many factors that go into determining the cost of a website. There is the type of website you are looking for, the features you would like to have as well as the number of pages and the type of content that will be in your website. Once we have most of the requirements figured out we can come up with a cost to create your website.

Keep in mind that a professionally designed website is an business investment more than a “cost”. As corny as that may sound, it’s true, as most website are the life force of their business. After realizing the value of a professional website, I have had clients return after planning to go with a cheaper website solution.

Below I have created 3 scenarios as a general guide on the costs of getting a professional website created for your business.

Small Website – $799.00 to $1499.00.
This can be a one page website or a 3 to 5 page starter website without any added functionality and a good place to begin if you are on a limited budget. A site of this size will still need to reach your goals and work well for your business which will require proper planning and execution. A small website also has a solid foundation that will allow you to expand your website as your business grows.

Medium Website – $1499.00 to $2999.00.
This size of website is an ideal size for any small business. It is around 6 to 12 pages in size and may have some added functionality added along with custom graphics. Many of the small business websites you see are generally this size. A medium site will also need proper planning to achieve your goals. It will also have a solid foundation for growth.

Large Website – $2999.00 and up.
This size of website will have 12 pages and up with advanced functionality and custom design and graphics throughout. If you have a large amount of information a large website will help you organize your content properly to make it easily accessible to your customers . Additional planning will be required to create an effective website that will help meet your business goals. Future expansion will also be possible with the ability to add new content and features.

There is a great deal of work that goes into even the smallest of websites. The above scenarios are a general overview to provide a rough idea on the costs of creating a website. They are open to change depending on your specific needs.

Quotes are free and come with no commitment on your part. When you are ready, contact us and talk to us about the website you need created. We are here to help.

Are any other features included in the costs of your websites?

Beyond the work of planning, designing and building your website there are a number of features that are included with your website. We make use of most of these features and other features are available to use when you need them.

The features we use in most of the sites we create are site navigation, drop down menus, responsive framework, image galleries, contact form, drag and drop modular design, page builder, Google fonts, google maps, child theme, social media links, basic SEO, XML Sitemap, website back-up and website security.

Other features we can use when needed are a blog, mega menus, slider, google analytics, site languages, email marketing opt in form, and social media follow.

How many changes can I make to my site without additional cost?

The planning and design stages of our process is designed to deal with any major changes and or additions before the build stage of your website by covering any issues with content, functionality and layout. This helps to keep your project running smoothly and minimize changes later on.

If something does “pop-up” during the building of your website any number of changes or additions can be made providing they fall within the estimated scope of your website project.

How does the payment process work?

A 50% start fee is required prior to beginning work on any small projects with the remaining amount due once the project has been completed.

Large projects require a start fee of 30% prior to beginning work. The project will be invoiced every 2 weeks for work completed to date or upon the completion of a project stage. A final invoice will be issued upon the completion of the project.

Any final payment must be made before your website is put online and goes live.

All payments can be made by company cheque or online transfer.

We would be happy to discuss any alterations to this process providing that they benefit both parties.
