The Stages we take for Optimum Results

Our Website Process

A Simple, Organized Process

There are many things to work out when creating a successful website. What type of website will it be, how will it reach your business goals, what type of content will it have, how many pages will there be, what type of design will it have, how long will it take to complete? Dealing with everything at once can become overwhelming very quickly.

By organizing each task into a simple, organized process we are able to take care of everything that needs to be done.

Over the years we have refined our process into 3 stages. They are Planning, Design and Build. Below is an overview of all 3 stages followed by a more detailed discussion of each stage.

We hope this will help you become more familiar with how we go about creating your website.

All great websites need a good plan. Here we organize your websites content into an intuitive structure.

We select the features you need for your website and work out any technical details!

Good Web Design creatively presents your content with clean, responsive layouts.

Here we use color, fonts and layout to deliver a strong message and reinforce your brand.

With a good plan and design building your web site will be smooth and trouble free.

Here all the parts of your web site are assembled to build a web site your customers will love to use.

Stage One

Creating a plan for your web site is a short but important step. A good plan sets the ground work for the Design and Built stages.

First we establish the purpose and goals for your web site. We also make sure your domain name and hosting is ready.

A big part of the Planning step is the content for you web site. We gather together the content ideas for your website and organize it into an easy to navigate structure made up of pages and sub-pages.

Any unique features you may need for your web site beyond any of the features we normally provide are discussed and added using the best solution.

Finally it’s important to discuss the look and feel of your web site and how it will work with your current branding. When planning a creative direction for your web site we consider any design preferences you may have, your target market, your existing marking materials, the type of industry you are in and any competitors.

Stage Two

This is the fun part. The Web Design. Most people make the mistake of starting here without planning their web site first. By planning things first it can really help the design step immensely.

We create the design of your web site based on your content, your target market, the template being used and features of the site.

Colors, fonts and page layouts are created to show how your content will appear on the web site. We typically design layouts for the Home page and one or two interior pages.

If a design template is used, this stage can be reduced or eliminated depending on how much modification is made to the design template.

Once the Design is ready we then move on the build stage of your web site.

Stage Three

With the planning and design stages complete, the build stage of your web site begins. Here we put all the pieces together. The site’s structure, content, and final web site design is used to build out your website page by page. This can be compared to the way a construction worker uses blueprints to construct a building.

Depending on the size of your website the build stage can take some time to finish.

When the entire site is ready (and approved) it is made live for the entire world to see.

To keep your website safe online we use strong passwords. We also make a complete back-up of the website files and database.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the process for creating a website work?

Our process for creating a website follows three simple stages. The first stage is the Planning stage. We determine the type of website you’re looking for and its main purpose. We also plan and collect the content for the site and address any technical requirements.

The second stage is the Design stage. Here we work on the overall look and feel of your website and create layouts for the main pages of your website.

The third and final stage is the build stage. Here we build and install the files of your website so it can be viewed in a browser. We use the content from the planning stage and the final design from the Design stage. You are able to view the website as we build it offering any feedback.

One the website is done it put online and made live for all your customers.

Our website process is designed to be simple, organized and efficient with the least amount of confusion for our clients.

How long does a website take to create and build?

The amount of time it takes to create a website depends on the size of the website. The size of a website is determined by the number of pages in the website, the amount of content that is on each page and the required features and functionality.

A medium size website of 10 to 12 pages will generally take 1 to 2 weeks for planning and design and 2 to 4 weeks for development. A more accurate timeline will be included with your project quote. Waiting for content resources from the client or additions to the scope of the website will add time to your website project.

This is general guideline as every website project comes with its own set of unique challenges and there are always exceptions to consider. When estimating the timeline for your website project we will make every effort to work within any deadlines you may have.

Can I see my website while it is in progress?

Once we have reached a certain point during the build stage of your website it will available for you to see and provide us with any feedback. Any minor changes, additions or alterations within the scope of the project can be made.

Changes or additions beyond the project scope may add to the costs and development time. Once the website is complete a full review and approval by the client will be required before the website goes live.

What is a Design template?

A design template is a set of professionally designed web pages that that can be used as the design of your web site. They also sometimes referred to as layout packs.

Each design template is designed based on a specific type of business or interest and can be added to any website.

Design templates don’t have to be used for the specific type of business they were designed for and can be modified to work with almost any type of business.

The entire set of templates can be used, a single page can be used or only one section from any page can be used depending on your purposes.

The pages of a design template usually consist of a Home page, a Landing page, an About page, and a Contact Page. There may also be pages for products, services, and a blog. Any other pages your may need can be easily created.

Design templates are free with any website we create. Also, all the graphics and images are freely usable with no licensing restrictions.

How do design templates work?

After a design template is selected the pages are loaded into your website. We simply add your content to each page and your website is ready to go.

The tricky part is to get the layout to work with your content. Adding longer headings and larger paragraphs than what are seen in the design template can drastically affect the layout. To deal with this we are able to tweak or change any part of a layout pack so it works better with your content.

Look for a design template that will work best for the type of website you need. At the very least all you need to do is add your logo, contact information and content to each page. If you need something more, a layout pack can work as a good starting point for the development of your website.

Any of the page layouts from a design template are fully configurable. Pages can be renamed and reordered. Sections can be added, moved around or removed. Colours, fonts, animations, design elements and backgrounds can also be changed as needed.

Any modifications made to a design template will take more time and can result in additional costs depending on the number of changes made.
